Personalized Tutoring for Science Subjects and MCAT

My Story

Hey! My name is Leon, and I’m passionate about helping ambitious students reach their academic goals. I believe that a good educational foundation has the power to change the trajectory of people’s lives, and I'm committed to helping students succeed in the long run. By using the fundamental sciences as a subject, I hope to teach students “how to learn,” ultimately building long term study habits and methods. My goal is not only to help students succeed in a singular course, but also to succeed in a lifetime of learning.          My journey as a tutor began in high school, where I spent two years teaching subjects like pre-calculus and high school chemistry. During that time, I also served on the executive board of my high school’s tutoring program, where I helped manage over 300 tutors and tutees. In college, I've continued to pursue my passion for education by tutoring peers in chemistry, biology, and organic chemistry. I’m also serving on the board of Vanderbilt Student Volunteers for Science, an organization that manages hundreds of volunteers who teach science to middle school students.          Outside of tutoring, you will find me busy running experiments for my biological sciences honors thesis. In my free time, you might also find me reading at a local coffee shop, training for my upcoming marathon, or working in my room as an aspiring perfumer. If you are interested in being one of my students and have questions for me, please do not hesitate to contact me at leonslearninglab@gmail.com or directly booking a consultation below.  I look forward to helping you reach your academic goals!

TESTIMONIALS

When I first started general chemistry, I was struggling, but Leon not only helped me excel but also taught me how to study independently, equipping me with lifelong learning skills. With his guidance, I improved each quarter and finished my general chemistry series with an A, and his strategies carried over into organic chemistry, biology, ecology, and environmental science. Leon didn’t just focus on content mastery, he emphasized strategic approaches to learning, which made a significant difference in my academic success. Even after our sessions ended, the methods Leon taught me allowed me to handle different subjects independently, making me a more self-sufficient learner. His mentorship also positively impacted my intellectual development, enhancing my problem-solving abilities and personal capabilities. His guidance has been a game-changer for me.

General Chemistry Student: Fall - Spring 2023

UCSB’s organic chemistry lab is a notoriously challenging course that only gives As to the top 3 students per section, requiring a meticulous approach to achieve top scores. I was introduced to Leon through a friend who recommended him after learning he excelled in both lab courses and with his guidance, I managed to get an A in both classes. Leon provided a structured and adaptive strategy for success, tailored specifically to the unique challenges and changes for my specific TA. Understanding that certain assignments had harsher grading than others, he advised me to focus on quiz preparation specifically, which helped improve my grade relative to others in my section. Leon also taught me subtle tactics to maximize points, such as adjusting lab procedures for extra credit opportunities. Unlike other tutors who focus solely on content, Leon’s extensive research allowed him to devise strategies that emphasized acing the course structure itself. He prioritized high-impact content and shared exam strategies that focused on maximizing points and efficiency. The most valuable aspect of working with Leon was his reliable, strategy-driven advice, making him highly recommended for tutoring in organic chemistry and other challenging courses.

Organic Chemistry Lab Student: Fall - Winter 2023

Leon was an exceptional tutor for both Intro Bio and Ecology. He went the extra mile by providing tips and external resources that made complex concepts more understandable outside of our scheduled time. His use of visual aids significantly helped me grasp challenging concepts and his deep knowledge extended beyond the course material, allowing me to connect ideas across different subjects.
